The “GAA ANGELS” are known for their volleyball
prowess on island. GAA team sports offer students valuable experience to learn cooperation and joint effort. Emphasis is placed on self discipline and personal responsibility. Fifteen
(15) sports credits may be applied to the PE credits required for graduation. See footnote on Appendix A for total PE requirements.
Intramural sports are organized, and run by GAA staff during the second half of the lunch hour. A Credit of .5 for PE may be earned for each type of intramural sport. GAA is involved in two interscholastic high-school sports: Basketball and Volleyball. We offer 2.5 credits per sport. This is subject to change on a year-by-year basis, and dependent on variables such as adequate participation/qualification and game time scheduling. Currently, the league is in association with IIAAG (Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam). A fee of $50.00 is charged for each type of sport joined. Interscholastic sports are 2.5 credits for each sport per year.
ACB -- ACADEMIC CHALLENGE BOWL is a GATE program of Guam’s Gifted and Talented Education service of Guam’s Department Of Education. Participation is by invitation. GAA has a team from grades 6-8 representing the Middle School ACB Team and grades 9-12 students representing the High School ACB Team.
Students who represent GAA at the Academic Challenge Bowl are expected to wear a GAA uniform that is neat and clean. All uniform and grooming rules apply. Failure to observe these standards causes the student an automatic withdrawal from the challenge, and the team to forfeit, because a student is not allowed to participate. Wearing a neat and clean uniform represents oneself and school best.
ART & ESSAY ISLAND CONTESTS offer a vast array of opportunity. GAA encourages and supports student interest in the arts and writing.
COMPUTER classes are offered to all grades from first grade through high school. Favorites offered include Web Design and Robotics.
COMMUNITY SERVICE is required of all junior high and high school students. The 7TH and 8th grades are required to complete 20 hours of community service. The 9th through 12th grades are required to complete 40 hours of community service. All community service must be approved by the principal before the student starts his/her community service. Students may earn community service hours as teacher assistants and receive valuable training. School projects and community designated days impact students’ commitment to their community.
