GAA Handbell Choir
Another busy holiday season has arrived for Guam Adventist Academy’s Handbell Choir. Within the last week, the handbell class had five performances and have several more to go. After their first performance at the GAA’s Christmas Concert last Thursday at the Agana Heights SDA Church, the handbell choir performed Saturday night at the Westin Resort. They performed all ten songs that the class has been practicing everyday with their teacher and conductor, Marie Dela Paz. The class had their next performance at the GMM Women’s Ministry Charitea held at Lotte Hotel on Sunday, December 9th, and continued with their performances on Tuesday at Tumon Sands Plaza and Wednesday at Agana Shopping Center.
This year, the handbell choir consists of seventeen members from 7th to 12th grade. There are nine new members with no handbell experience, and the rest of the members are returning from previous years. The students have been enjoying the entire handbell experience; learning how to read music, playing new songs, and performing at different locations. One of the new ringers in the choir, 12th grader Santiago Poppe says, “It’s been very fun and exciting learning how to play handbells. I’m thankful for Mrs. Dela Paz for teaching me and helping us to develop our skills that will enable us to perform as a group of ringers.” Another ringer, 7th grader Kinora Bernard, says that she really enjoys handbells even though it can be challenging at times, the experience is “so amazing”.
With five more holiday performances, the handbell choir are ready to represent their school at the different hotels and locations to bless the audience with their music. As the handbell choir continues to play throughout this busy holiday season, may God bless the group as they witness to others and use their musical talents for God’s glory. All are invited to support the GAA handbell choir at the next handbell performance on Saturday, December 15 at 7pm at Hilton Resort and Spa.
